Believe in Yourself

Self-development – a concept that means a big deal to a lot of people.  We hear tales of people who go from living in their cars to being industry leaders.  We hear stories of people transitioning from their lowest low to their highest high.  We hear about people’s journeys from the moment they opened their mind to a possibility to that idea becoming a reality.  We hear of people bettering themselves (and this does not mean becoming better than another person) as their lives and circumstances improve.

Is there a limit to what you can do?  Or are you just intimidated by others who already have what it is that you are trying to achieve?  What many of us don’t realise is that we often compare where we are with where somebody else is, regardless of individual physical conditions, thus making ourselves feel weak and less able.  Everyone deserves to feel good and strong and that’s exactly what Yoga can do for you.  Yoga teaches you how to live and deal with the challenges that human beings face daily; it’s not just about stretching, breathing and holding poses!

Pranayama, meditation and Savasana are some of the most accessible tools for enhancing non-attachment.  When the body is relaxed and the mind is quiet, you have little concern for achieving outcome.  By letting go, there is a chance for your authentic self, a self without limits, to become more apparent.

There will always be people who believe they can’t.  There are many people who only believe they can if others tell them so.  Thousands of people could believe in you but you only need to believe in yourself (the mind is the limit, right!) – so don’t let your mind stop you from achieving your goals.

So how do you overcome your current limitations?  By learning.  The ability for the human mind to learn is immense once you are able to tap into an innate sense of intrigue and curiosity.  The more you learn, the more you overcome the fear of not knowing enough or of being wrong.  It is also necessary to recognise that mishaps carry priceless wisdom, and can often lead to unforeseen payoffs.  Acting passionately and with conviction can occasionally lead to short-term mistakes but will also lead to considerably better results in the long run.  So be honest with yourself about your strengths and what you enjoy doing and make changes where you need to.  When you say things like “I can’t…” or “i am not able to…” you are dictating your own boundaries.  So find the ability inside yourself to enjoy, to play and to learn.  The hardest part is often to just be honest with yourself, to show up and get on with things.  Challenge yourself to keep going, to further your game, to inspire others, to give things a try, to face your fears, and slowly but surely you will conquer your limits!
