Hey yogis, the extremely capable Harriet has a workshop coming up in a couple of weeks, we caught up with her to get the lowdown on what to expect:
Before we get to the workshop why don’t you tell us a little about your background
Sure, I spent my childhood and teenage years as a competitive gymnast up to national level, travelling all over the country to attend competitions. Through gymnastics, I found my love of coaching and teaching and have been coaching gymnastics for 18 years. I have been a Level 2 Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Coach for 14 of those.
Ok so not just a yogi then! Presumably you can apply a good deal of that to your yoga classes?
Yes! My extensive knowledge of movement patterns and the body has given me a great understanding of technique and moving well but my main passion is seeing others learn and grow not just through movement but in confidence too. For me, the most important part of any session, class or workshop should be enjoyment as that is where the most progress is made. I love what I do and want to pass this on to others!
Tell us about the workshop, why arm balances and inversions?
Well due to my gymnastics background, one of my favourite parts of teaching yoga is the arm balances and inversions which I think they can be for everyone if taught safely and correctly.
In the workshop we will focus on building confidence, technique and strength either to improve people’s current practice or maybe even help them achieve their very first arm balance. All levels are welcome and whether you are looking to achieve your first crow or take your inversions to the next level you will find yourself catered for. We’ll work through drills, tips and coaching cues for a range of different postures from crow pose to headstands and handstands.
